Diary sub-note: 1907. Lord Kelvin, scientist, died Went to see “Le Faiseur.” Had no exams but drawing in the morning. Packed my presents & Christmas cards. Cut out pictures of David. He has a chill & is in bed.

December 13th 1936

Diary sub-note: 3rd [Sunday] in Advent. Ember Week. 1784. Dr. Johnson died New Moon, 11.25 p.m. David to be called The Duke of Windsor. It rained all morning. Wrote to Joy & Marjory Gourlay.

December 12th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1882. City of London School opened S.R. 7.56, S.S. 3.51 Daddie’s birthday.David to be called Mr Edward Windsor. We went shopping & Marjorie & I bought Leslie’s present. December 11th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1732. John Gay, writer, died We heard that David had abdicated. We went for a walk after breakfast. Marjory & I stayed at the house all the afternoon.

December 10th 1936

Diary sub-note: Grouse Shooting ends 1282. Llewellyn, Welsh prince, killed EDWARD VIII abdicated (DAVID) HE MARRIED A DIVORCED WOMAN [From previous page]David abdicated – poor darling. We went to the “Tale of Two Cities” (cinema). It was in French. Bought an English paper but there was nothing about my Davey in it.

December 9th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1917. Allenby captured Jerusalem Music lesson wasn’t too bad. Bought a “Morning Post” in which there was very hopeful news about David. Nancy & Joy wrote to me & sent me some lovely pictures of him.

December 7th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1918. British entered Cologne More about my David in the papers. Had a drawing lesson all morning. I wasn’t feeling well & so was not allowed to go out. Had a postcard & paper from Daddy & a paper from Joy.

December 6th 1936

Diary sub-note: 2nd [Sunday] in Advent1882. Anthony Trollope, novelist, died Mlle Hartmann & Mlle Grosslin went to La Lenk. They had a car accident on the way back & Mlle Hartmann was taken to hospital with injuries. It snowed in the afternoon quite a lot. There was a lot about David in the papers.
