Diary sub-note: 1918. Surrender of German main fleet
S.R. 7.28, S.S. 4.4

Went shopping for “Escalade”*. Had letters from Paddy, Primrose & “Milly”. Wrote to Susan. Got the curse.

*The Escalade is a Genevan festival celebrated every December to commemorate Geneva’s victory against the Duke of Savoy’s troops in 1602.

Diary entry November 21st 1936

Diary footnote, accompanied by a photograph of a Scottish Terrier: SCOTTISH TERRIER. Sometimes called the Aberdeen, for no especial reason, the ‘Scottie’ is a deservedly popular little dog, loyal and game; hardy and of gentlemanly appearance. Unlike most terriers, he dislikes hunting in packs, preferring to go his own way. Not usually pugnacious, he is ‘bad to beat’ when someone has started a ‘rough house.’ He is, of course, related to that oldest of Scottish terriers, the Cairn. Colours, black or brindled. Coat very harsh.
