Diary sub-note: 1648. Peace of Westphalia
S.R. 6.39, S.S. 4.40
Larlitta, a new Spanish girl came. We went for a long walk in the afternoon with Miss Hope-Jones. Had a letter from Daddie.

Diary footnote, accompanying a photograph of a Pomeranian: THE POMERANIAN. At one time the darling of boudoir and drawing-room, these vivacious and attractive little dogs have to a large extent given way to the Peke in feminine favour. The toy Pom belongs to the lupine group, though one would not think so from his size, and is akin to the Samoyed. At one time there was a larger edition known as the Spitzenbergen, or ‘Spitz,’ hardly distinguishable from the Samoyed. The Pom is one of the most attractive of ‘toys,’ but – they do yap.
