Diary sub-note: 723. Battle of Tours
S.R. 6.14, S.S. 5.19

Susan’s birthday. She is 19. Went to shop in the town & then to the news cinema. Had a letter from Daddie. Listened to the wireless after dinner.

Diary entry October 10th 1936

Diary footnote, accompanying a photograph of a Pointer: THE POINTER. A gun-dog of the good old fashioned sort, familiar to all lovers of old sporting prints of the days when the shooter tramped the roots or stubbles with his muzzle-loader and black powder, or waded through marshes after snipe. Looking at him, one is struck by his ‘houndy’ appearance, and it is probably that he has a cross of foxhound, to account for his wonderful nose. To my mind he is one of the most graceful of sporting dogs, but in these days of farming, his natural hunting grounds are scarce.
