Diary sub-note: 1875. Charles Kingsley, novelist, died
Freezing cold day. Had first sowing [sic]. Lavender brought me pictures of “David”. She gave me figs for morning lunch. Had a music lesson. Had “musitions [sic] Guild” after supper. Made a new treble pipe.

We think ‘sowing’ means ‘sewing’.
“David” refers to the new King Edward, whose full name was Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David. His family referred to him affectionately as David.
We’re not sure exactly what the “musicians guild” refers to – presumably a meeting.
