Diary sub-note: 1901. Accession of Edward VII

King Edward VIII proclaimed King. Had 1st music lesson. Listened in to the proclamation on the wireless. Went riding. It poured with rain & then snowed & so I had a short ride. Wrote to Anne’s Nanny. Poor David.

Diary entry for January 22nd 1936

Very interesting to note that King Edward VIII ascended to the throne on the same date as Edward VII, 35 years before.

‘Poor David’ refers to the fact that Edward VIII was very reluctant to take the throne. He was known as David (one of his middle names) within the royal family.
