King George V died 11.55.p.m. [added in later.]
Lessons started. Read a letter from Anne. Went with Anita in break. Had first ban meetings. Hermione came to blue band. Had “Lax”. Played games in Miss Gurney’s room after supper.

Diary entry January 20th 1936

Peggy’s cousin has suggested that “Lax” could refer to lacrosse, which is a team sport adopted by many girls’ public schools in the 1890s. It was also known as “laccy’ by our cousin.
